Building the Walls

January – March 2024: The new year kicked off with excitement as the slab was poured and the building took shape. It was amazing to watch the masons build walls of cinder block reinforced with rebar and high-fill grout and concrete beams, sometimes seeming to appear in just hours. Once the first floor walls were standing, the steel beams and decking were installed by crane and the second floor cement lid was poured. Then the masons were back at it – building walls and pouring beams to full height. A new fire line was installed and final review of plumbing fixtures, drainage changes and the new sidewalks and parking were completed. COOS continued to utilize the existing building with minimal interruptions. COOS moved to temporary offices mid-March and held its final worship service in the existing space on Easter! Many COOS’ers helped pack and load to ensure we were moved out just in time.

The full property is now considered an active building site and for safety purposes is not open for visits. The COOS Building Committee has all confidence in our architect, Tom Norman, our builder Tim Young, and our project team manager, Brian and Chad. We communicate and meet regularly to ensure this build is on track.
